If you are just starting out on hybrids (HEV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), electric vehicles (EV) or range extended electric vehicles (REEV) this list below will help you with equipment and tools.
I often get asked in class "What Scan Tool should I buy?" It depends on what you already own. I use OEM scan tools most of the time (Yes, I still work on cars) when they are available (which is most of the time) but at every Up Your Voltage! class we have a scan tool shoot out that helps ACDC stay on top of what is working and what is not.
Hybrid Scan Tool Info:
Stay away from: Any OTC scanner. The voltage readings are wrong and misleading. Unless you know what is normal this tool will just make your job more difficult. Too bad because the tool itself is not bad. Early Vedis is not CAN. Every tool you have should be CAN ready.
Has some info: Launch
Recommended: (These Scan Tool Companies are trying to make it better): Snap-on and AutoEnginuity.
ACDC is not paid by any scan tool companies.
